Forest kindergarten & school
LIGHT STARS - RIDING
That's why forest!
The forest is a wonderful experience and adventure space for children of all ages. It offers them enough space to move around, to meet and to set themselves apart.
In the forest the children experience the seasons and the changes associated with them in all their intensity. All senses are naturally addressed and sharpened. The unstructured, natural materials such as wood, earth, stones or bark encourage imaginative games. The quiet in the forest leads to relaxation and equilibrium, the simplicity and naturalness of the environment leads to concentration on essential development processes.
The idea of founding a forest kindergarten in Renon came from Ute Mayr, who initiated the project together with Ingrid Mair and Leander Bechtold. It is the first of its kind in South Tyrol and has been attracting more and more people since it began in 2013.
There are things in the woods
one could lie in the moss for years and think about.
The forest kindergarten
Kindergarten starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 12.30 p.m.
There are 18-20 children aged 3-6 years, who are looked after by two companions.
Daily life in the forest kindergarten
The forest in which the children spend the morning is above a meadow behind the "Haus der Familie".
In the morning, most of the children first sit around the fireplace at the edge of the forest, chat and eat the snacks they have brought with them. Others begin their activities immediately: they fetch the tool box, dig and build, get together with their friends for role-playing games, climb trees, roam through the forest or slide down the steep slope.
Free play is the main occupation of the children in the forest kindergarten.
The companions are there for the children, help and comfort, support in conflicts or observe the children. In the forest kitchen, they bake and cook with them, they sing together and do simple handicrafts. At the end of the morning everyone meets for “story time”.
The children spend all days outdoors. A tipi with a fireplace serves as protection in very adverse weather.
The forest school
The school is located in the "Waldhaus" next to the family house, which provides the premises. The meadow behind the house and the nearby forest and garden are also used for playing and learning.
The children attend school from 8 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. They will be accepted from the first grade and accompanied up to the 3rd middle school.
The languages of instruction are German and Italian and English.
A day in the forest school
After arriving, everyone meets in the morning circle. It offers space for storytelling and listening, for discussing current topics and for jointly planning activities.
Then the children go about their individual activities:
They will deal with language and mathematics using games, materials, books and exercises. They will immerse themselves in questions that concern our history, our living space and life in other countries, on earth and beyond. They do manual work, sew, knit, paint, do handicrafts and carry out experiments. In the kitchen they can cook and bake.
And the children continue to spend time outside observing, discovering, playing, or deepening and exploring what they have learned.
The teachers observe and accompany the children in their natural learning process. They show tasks and games, introduce materials and working methods and support the children in deepening a topic. They also invite people to tell the children about their lives and their activities.
The school day ends for everyone with a story that the teachers read out.
Contribution and parental work
The parents pay between 150 and 200 euros per month and do a certain number of hours of parental work per year.
